PS3 Light Fix Review – You’ll Never See the Yellow Light of Death Again

PS3 Light Fix is a step by step guide to how to fix your PS3 at home. The PS3 is prone to several bugs that have become familiar to the gaming community. These are known variously as the yellow light of death, the flashing red light, the flashing green light, and the red screen. Before now the only way to fix these errors was to send your unit back to Sony. Unfortunately, they charge over $150 for these repairs, take as long as six weeks to send a unit back to you, and are infamous for replacing your unit with refurbished versions that are not in as good condition. Even worse, Sony wipes the hard drives of the units, so when you get it back all your data is gone.

The PS3 community was up in arms over these issues until now. Rob Sheffield, a repairman whose entire business is dedicated to fixing PS3s, wants to share his knowledge with you to save you frustration and wasted time and money so you can fix your PS3 at home.

PS3 Light Fix costs a small fraction of the Sony repairs and gives you the knowledge necessary to fix every known PS3 error that it’s possible to handle yourself at home. Besides the yellow light of death and similar problems, it deals with over 100 error codes, the Blu-Ray drive, and any disk reading errors.

Rob Sheffield has put together an insider’s guide to the exact methods Sony uses to repair its products and you can do it all yourself at home with common household objects. PS3 Light Fix presents the information in both eBook and video format so you can learn with the method that best suits you, and as long as you have a computer, an Internet connection, two screwdrivers (both flathead and Phillips head) and some toothpaste (this is actually required to successfully complete some repairs), you’re set.

PS3 Light Fix has very responsive customer service, so though anyone should be able to follow the processes Rob Sheffield has put out and fix their PS3 quickly and easily, if at any time you have questions or concerns or need help there’s someone there for you. PS3 Light Fix also comes with two bonus publications, one on how to get a stuck disc out of your PS3 (this is actually the most common cause of the yellow light of death and the red light of death), and another on how to install Linux on your PS3 so you can use it like a PC.

Fixing PS3 sitting at home is really good instead of waiting for weeks and weeks.
Nice guide. Works in most cases.

After researching the internet about how to fix the YLOD, I ended up getting this PS3LightsFix.com thingy. Mainly because they made it sound so much easier to do than the tips already available on YouTube. Guess what…the main fix instructions both in the PDF format and their video, was the same as the ones I’ve already seen online. Their claim that the fix is only unique to them is a load of malarkey. However, they did include other tips as well. Some I’ve never seen or heard before, but most I was able to find online prior to purchasing their instructions. This was NOT worth $37. They haven’t even replied to any of my emails about some questions I had. Apparently, I’ve heard they are pretty bad with customer support. And if they can’t even reply to an email, I seriously doubt they will give me my money back, because I wasn’t satisfied. Don’t waste your time and money on these guys. Everything you need to know can be found on YouTube. Just as detailed, if not, more so. It won’t cost you $150 to send your PS3 to Sony, it won’t cost you $37 for this regurgitated instructions from PS3LightsFix. The only things it will cost you is the cost of a heat gun (if you don’t already have one), thermal compound, and about an hour of your time. A little longer if your doing it for the first time.

By the way, I did fix my YLOD (with the help of a YouTube video I saw prior to purchasing this scam. Took me two tries though. The initial tip didn’t work exactly as instructed. So I referred to the YouTube video I bookmarked. I actually had to use a much higher heat setting than what PS3LightsFix recommended. A bit of advice…be VERY careful with the little black clip that holds down the blu ray drive ribbon to the motherboard. Many have had this piece break and improperly secure the ribbon to the board, rendering the blu ray drive unrecognizable.
